A herd of wild elephants disrupted vehicular traffic on National Highway-55 near Balisuniamuha under the Khuntuni Forest Range in Cuttack district on Saturday.
Sources said a herd of nearly 18 elephants instead of crossing the road surprisingly, stood their ground on the national highway for hours. Earlier, the herd of jumbos had strayed into Gurudijhatia College campus.
Though forest officials managed to drive away the animals from the college campus, the elephants stood on the NH-55 disrupting vehicular movements. Reports said hundreds of vehicles and commuters were still stranded on the both sides of the road even though the forest officials were trying to drive back the elephant herd into the forest.
