The residents of Dibyasinghpur gram panchayat are spending sleepless nights due to elephant menace. A herd of pachyderms has been creating havoc in the area, particularly in Birakesharpur village, for the last two weeks. The elephants have destroyed their crops and are camping in the area. Efforts to drive out the herd so far have proved futile.
The Forest department officials were trying hard to disperse the herd. The forest officials said a ten-member group of elephants from Chandaka forest has strayed into the village area in search of food. They were here in the area since last fortnight, they added.
