Jumbos again wreak havoc in M'bhanj

Published on:

The herd of around 70 Jharkhand elephants that had gone away to Nilgiri about a week ago via Mayurbhanj leaving behind a trail of destruction here, came back once again to the Badsahi and Betnoti block areas of the district on Thursday night.

Using the Dalki jungle and the Phuljhari Reserved Forest as the launching pad, they went on a destruction spree in the nearby areas throughout the night, rampaging the paddy fields and damaging the crops in the process.

The farmers in the affected areas are now, naturally, in a state of shock. Forest Department officials, however, are trying hard to bring the situation under control.
