A 65-year-old person, Kandra Pradhan, of Sankula Ganja village under the Nuagaon block in Sundargarh district was trampled to death by a tusker on Tuesday night.
While Kandra was sleeping, a herd of 17 elephants entered into his house and one among them lifted him in its trunk and crushed him to death. The herd also damaged Kandra and his brother Sadhan’s houses and devoured food grains.
Bisra Forest Ranger SC Sahani Sahani has sanctioned `10 thousand for Kandra’s cremation and assured adequate compensation to the deceased’s family.
