A female elephant died at the Dalijoda Reserve Forest under the Choudwar police limits on Monday after it had been shot by a poacher four days ago at a forest near Banjhiama village under Mangarajpur panchayat.
The ailing elephant had sustained bullet injuries on its right leg. On being informed by locals, Forest Department officials had visited the spot.
Later, arrangements were made for treatment of the animal by staffers of the Nandankanan Zoological Park, Bhubaneswar. However, the jumbo succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.
