Terming Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s order for a judicial probe into the chit fund scam by a sitting judge of the High Court as an eyewash, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Jayadev Jena on Friday reiterated his demand for a CBI inquiry for the sake of free, fair and time-bound investigation.
A fair probe by an independent investigating agency could help identify the influential people involved in the scam, Jena said, adding that the Congress would stage demonstrations in front of the district Collectorates across the State on June 5 to press for a CBI probe.
By ordering a judicial probe, the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD Government is trying save its Ministers and party MlAs, who are involved in the scam, as such an inquiry process is a delayed one. “The Government has just made an effort to buy time as it knows that a sitting High Court judge cannot be spared for any commission of inquiry as per the Supreme Court’s judgment,” Jena said.
The PCC president appointed party observers for all the districts for effective conduct of the demonstrations.
