J'swar lawyers threaten stir for Sub-Division status

The Jaleswar Bar Association held a meeting at Jaleswar last weekend to carry forward the demand for accordance of Sub-Division status to Jaleswar.

The meeting was attended by local MlA Aswani Patra and former MlA Dr Kartikeswar Patra along with representatives from various civil society organisations and political parties and all pressed for the status.

The speakers said “There were 74 sub-divisions and 13 districts in the State. During the Biju Patnaik regime, while the number of districts increased to 30, the sub-division number did not increase even though a demand for the status was placed before Patnaik back then”. The association members threatened to resort to an intense agitation after forming an action committee taking representatives from various blocks if their demand is not fulfilled forthwith.
