A socioeconomic survey was launched by the JSW in collaboration with the Xavier Institute for Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) in the project site.
The survey aims to capture immediate action points in sync with project activities inter alia employment potential, likely options for local procurement of materials, hiring of equipment and other services in the pre-project phase of the proposed Integrated Steel Plant (ISP).
“The intent is to strengthen the socio-economic fabric of the locality by generating economic opportunities for the individual households in the affected villages,” said COO JSW Steel, Odisha operations Ranjan Nayak.
“We are taking the overall development in domains of employment, public health and primary education in the locality very seriously, and this survey is a sure step in this direction," he added.
The exercise would help the company identify youths with past experience of working in the mining, metals or steel sector, and assess their skill level. Contractors in various domains such as civil, electrical, material suppliers etc and households having commercial vehicles would also be tracked by the extensive survey. A systematic aspiration mapping for career and vocation among youths is part of this survey, he added.
The survey covers villages of Polang in Gadakujang GP, Nuagan and Dhinkia, Govindpur, Mahala, Patana and approximately 4,000 people.
