local BJP leader Navin Naik was detained after the Jharsuguda Town police raided his Hotel Mahavir Inn at Biju Nagar on Sunday. Jharsuguda PS Inspector-in-Charge Savitri Bal led the team that conducted the raid in morning.
The police have detained two women from West Bengal and two unmarried couples of the Kuchinda area along with Naik. Two other men, suspected to be a customer and a tout, managed to flee away.
Previously also, similar allegations were made against the hotel management, but no action had been taken. However after receiving a tip on Sunday, the police launched an operation to bust the sex racket.
Owing to police negligence, Jharsuguda is rapidly becoming a trafficking zone where women from West Bengal who are forced into prostitution are utilised by smaller hotels.
