J'suguda polls: Congress moves SEC against BJD

Published on:

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the State Election Commissioner (SEC) seeking his intervention in the violation of model code of conduct by the BJD workers during the urban local body (UlB) polls at Jharsuguda.

A delegation headed by PCC vice-president Sivananda Ray on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the SEC alleging that the BJD workers were violating the poll code during campaigning at Jharsuguda. He said that the BJD was employing hooligans to force people give vote in favour of their candidates, while at the same time, the party was inducing the voters by money.

The BJD leaders are exerting pressure on the Government machineries to arrest the frontline Congress workers. The anti-socials used by the party are also attacking the Congress candidates, said Ray, adding that the ruling party is also misusing police to harass the Congress candidates by registering false cases against them.

Ray further said that the star campaigners of the BJD, Minister Kalpataru Das and Government Chief Whip Pravat Biswal are disturbing the peaceful atmosphere and encouraging violence in the area. District Congress unit of Jharsuguda also alleged the Minister Das and Biswal are distributing money to the SHGs to cast their votes in favour of the BJD.
