Many parts of Jharsuguda witnessed a blackout for 14 long hours from Friday late night to Saturday afternoon as cabled wires were burnt after a truck hit a transformer poll in the town.

The Wesco authorities took more than 14 hours to replace the cables for which residents of Behramal, Bijunagar, Collectorate and Samhati Nagar spent the whole night without electricity.

“We had to spend a sleepless night as humidity was very high,” said Prabharanjan Mishra, a resident of Behramal.

There was also no drinking water in many households due to the outage.

When contacted, Wesco Executive Engineer D Gardia power supply was disrupted for 14 hours as it took equal period of time to replace the wires. Power supply was resumed in the afternoon.
