JSpur Truck Owners' Assn calls off stir

The Jagatsingpur Truck Owners’ Association on Monday withdrew its agitation against the IOCl affiliation to the Atal Bihari Tipper Association (ABTP) for transporting petroleum coke (pet coke) from the Paradip Oil Refinery to the Paradip Port.

“Our association had been staging an agitation for the last three days against the IOCl permission to the ABTP truckers for transporting pet coke for the last three days. We withdrew it as Paradip ADM, ASP and IIC came to us and sought four days’ time to resolve the issue,” said association president Ranjit Beura.

He, however, stated that the association would resume agitation if the administration doesn’t fulfill its demand within promised period.

It may be noted that truckers of the three different truck owners’ associations have opposed the transportation of pet coke by the ABTP. On January 14, the protestors had detained 15 hyva trucks laden with pet coke at Paradip.

The other two associations who are opposing the ABTP affiliation to the IOCl are Paradip Truck Owners’ Association and Jagannath Truck Owners’ Association.

They have demanded that the IOCl scrapped the contract with newly formed ABTP and award the same to them as they have been in the business for years.

Petroleum coke is a carbonaceous solid delivered from oil refinery coker units or other cracking processes.
