Sk Akil Ali, a resident of Manumahal village under Tirtol block who was arrested in connection with rape and murder of a six-year-old girl of his village, was sent to jail on Saturday. However, the main accused is still on the run.
Meanwhile, hundreds of villagers, including women and school students, staged a road blockade on the Tarapur bypass demanding capital punishment to the culprits and compensation to the deceased’s kin. They lifted the road blockade after being assured of stringent actions by the senior Government officials. Ali confessed to his crime during interrogation, informed Tirtol PS IIC Dayanidhi Nayak.
