Police on Tuesday arrested postmaster Raghunath Rath, who had been absconding from his village after allegedly embezzling about `16 lakh from the Kundeswar Sub-Post Office at Naugaon in Jagatsinghpur district.
Several complaints had been lodged against the postmaster for committing fraud and misappropriation of depositors’ money.
Acting on the complaints, the Department of Posts authorities had instituted a probe and found the post master guilty of misappropriation and then suspended him in September last year. Since then, he was absconding. Meanwhile, some depositors had lodged FIRs against the postmaster at the Naugaon police station.
