Demanding immediate transfer of the district Superintendent of Police and action against an errant police inspector who registered a case against the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Jagatsinghpur, local lawyers held agitation on Thursday. The lawyers took out a procession from Sanabazar to the district Collectorate and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and police higher-ups through the Collector seeking immediate action.
Meanwhile, a fact-finding team from State Bar Association led by senior lawyer Tahali Mohanty visited the district headquarters on Wednesday and held discussions with the district judge, other judicial officers, bar association members and persons related to this incident and the team was yet to produce its report.
The Odisha High Court has taken up a contempt of court case against the Jagatsinghpur SP and issued notice for compliance. The Court Registrar (Judicial) filed the contempt case and Chief Justice Amitava Roy and Justice Askhya Rath heard the petition. Notably, three days ago, a woman police officer, Sabita Majhi, of the Paradip police station had lodged an FIR against Jagatsinghpur CJM Satyapriya Mishra alleging that she was misbehaved by the CJM during a court work. The police registered a case and began investigation on Tuesday, but in view of the mounting pressure from several forums, the case was later shifted to the State Human Rights Protection Cell for investigation.
