JSpur lawyers call off stir till Feb 28

The agitating Jagatsinghpur lawyers and legal professionals partially called off their stir on Monday and deferred it to February 28, District Bar Association president Dola Govinda Das informed.

He said that following request of the District Judge, the district Collector, the State Bar Council and four MlAs representing from Jagatsinghpur district, the strike was called off. However, if three of the demands of the lawyers are not met, they would again hold the agitation from March1, Das warned.

Following the agitation, court works had come to a grinding halt across the Jagatsinghpur district for the last three weeks. Following request from several quarters, the Bar Association in a meeting held on Monday decided to withdraw the strike.

Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police (SP), responding to a contempt case, appeared in the High Court and furnished her reply. The case has been posted to March 4 for hearing.

Notably, the lawyers had held the stir following slapping of a case on the CJM, Jagatsinghpur by police on the basis of a complaint of police official Sabita Majhi that CJM Satya Priya Mishra had misbehaved with her. The lawyers took the matter seriously saying that the woman cop had lodged a false and fabricated complaint against the CJM and that the district police had registered a case against the CJM without verifying truthfulness of the complaint which was an affront to the legal fraternity.
