Jagatsingpur district Collector Yamini Sarangi on Tuesday asked all BDOs and Tehsildars to keep relief materials and other arrangements ready to meet any eventuality that may be caused by cyclonic storm Kyant.

She particularly asked officials to keep systems ready to shift people to higher places in case the cyclone hits the coast.

It may be noted that Jagatsinghpur district was worst affected by the 1999 Super Cyclone. People in thousands were killed in Paradip only. The people who had survived the killer cyclone can’t forget the traumatic condition they had faced in their lives.

The Collector asked to make arrangements for providing logistic and infrastructure support to people in case a situation so compels.

Sarangi too asked authorities of the Paradip Refinery Project, IFFCO Paradip, PPl and Essar Steel in Paradip to remain alert to protect their properties and people

Besides, Paradip Port Trust Chairman Rinkesh Roy held a preparatory meeting with Port officials on the day. He opened an emergency office to provide information and emergency materials like dry food.

Number 1 danger signal was issued and a team of doctors have been kept ready for providing treatment to people. Fishermen were asked not venture into sea.
