The district Child Welfare Committee [CWC] in association with juvenile police on Saturday rescued a three- year- old girl child from her mentally- challenged mother who had been wandering under Jagatsinghpur Township for past few days.
After liberated from the mother, the victim child was sent to custody of one of her relatives, while the CWC will shoulder the victim’s responsibility in coming days, informed CWC chairman Dr Raghunath Jena.
Reports said that a middle aged woman accompanying a minor girl had been seen in the town for past few days and the woman had been reportedly begging. On Saturday morning, a few locals had informed police that the woman had been severely beating her child as she is mentally unsound. Acting on the complaint, police picked up the woman and child, asked the CWC to take necessary action.
The woman was identified as Kabita Das who is a mother of three children. Her husband died four years ago.
