While Corona cases’ recovery rate is satisfactory in the district, a woman migrant’s suicide in the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) isolation centre after her husband succumbed there due to heart failure on Thursday has raised questions pertaining to treatment and safety of Covid suspects and patients in the DHH.
The deceased couple Nirlipta Bhola and Subhadra Swain hailing from Erasama had returned from Hyderabad on Sunday and resided in village quarantine centre adhering to Covid guidelines. Both on Tuesday reported corona symptoms. They were shifted to the SVM College quarantine centre before being sent to the DHH next day after they suffered from fever and cough.
DHH sources claimed that both were given immediate treatment. But Nirlipta complained of chest pain on Thursday and died, informed ADMO Dr Ajaya Swain.
After knowing her husband’s death, Subhadra who was present at the isolation centre locked the door from inside and hanged herself. Before her death, she had recorded an audio and sent it to her kith and kin. The audio stated that no adequate medical assistance had been provided to her husband. CDMO Dr Bijaya Panda, however, refuted the allegation.
