JSpur BJD row: Tirtol college fest deferred

Published on:

The Students’ Union annual function of the Adikabi Saraladas College in Tirtol was marked by chaos on Saturday as the students were divided on selection of guests.

A section of students resorted to blockade at the Sarala Road Square on Cuttack- Paradip State Highway opposing Jagatsinghpur BJP president and Rajya Sabha member Bishnu Das’ selection as guest.

The agitated students alleged that the college students’ body ignored local BJD MlA Rajashree Mallick and said they would not allow MP Das to participate in the

event.

The function scheduled for Saturday was to be attended by guests MP Bishnu Das, MlA Prashant Muduli, MP Kulamani Samal and Zilla Parishad President DD Mohanty.

Mallick supporters opposed the function and later none of the invited guests except scribe Aruna Panda attended. A melody programme was only held while the meeting was cancelled.

Meanwhile, students’ body vice president Soumyaranjan Nayak lodged an FIR at Tirtol police station alleging that during guest selection his signature had found forged.

In view of tension, the police made elaborate security arrangements. Two platoons of police force, a magistrate and senior cops were deployed at spot. No untoward incident occurred during the function, informed SDPO Siva Charan Mallick.
