The Jagatsinghpur district administration skipped the World Environment Day (WED) celebration on Monday. Only a few social organisations and the District legal Aid Board observed it in a low-key manner.
Reports said that the State Forest and Environment department sponsors the WED celebration in each district headquarters and provides financial assistance Rs 1 lakh for holding an awareness drive, work shop and other related programmes.
In 2014, the Forest and Environment department stopped providing financial assistance due to non-submission of utilization certificate following funds supplied earlier.
In spite of lack of funds, the district administration held the WED celebration in last two years but this year it was not held.
Environmentalist Naresh Kumak Jena opined it as unfortunate.
