A Vigilance (Special) Court here on Tuesday allowed the anti-corruption wing of police to take the arrested Tripura-cadre Odia IPS officer Joydeep Nayak on remand for three days.

The court also rejected a bail application filed by the tainted IG-rank officer, who was arrested by the Odisha police from Uttar Pradesh last week, after he remained underground for almost a month.

Nayak, on an inter-cadre deputation here between 2011and 2016 and while officiating as IG of Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC), had embezzled Rs88 lakh meant for computer skill development of SC and ST students.

Sources said Vigilance officials would take Nayak on remand on Wednesday for custodial interrogation. The Vigilance police have already arrested five others, including a senior OPS officer, in connection with the scam.
