DGP Rajenra Prasad Sharma on Thursday visited the Maoist-infested Malkangiri and Koraput districts for the first time after he assumed office some months ago.
Sharma took stock of the Maoist situation in the districts and held discussions with the district polices on efforts to combat the Red rebels’ menace and the law and order situation in the districts.
The DGP flew to the cutoff region in Malkangiri district and reviewed the security arrangements in the wake of a spurt in Maoist activities, particularly by the ultras from Andhra Pradesh, who have infiltrated into the Odisha region in large numbers.
Notably, recently, the Maoists had tried to cut off the supply lines to the BSF camp by hijacking some boats carrying rations for the BSF personnel and had also slain innocent villagers after dubbing them as police informers.
later, the DGP said that joint operations by the Odisha and Andhra Pradesh polices would begin shortly to flush out the Red rebels from the areas. More forces would also be deployed to combat the Maoists menace in sensitive areas. He opined that more time is required to solve the Maoist problem.
The BSF IG, e IG Operations, the South Western Range DIG, the Intelligence DIG and other senior police officials accompanied Sharma during his visit.
