Jogesh resigns from Cong, quits MLA post

Congress leader Jogesh Singh resigned from the post of MLA and the primary membership of the party on Friday, a day after his suspension from the party on Thursday.

The Sundargarh MLA sent his resignation letter to AICC president Rahul Gandhi saying he quit the party “on moral ground”.

He expressed his displeasure against the party State leadership for suspending him without seeking any clarification from him.

“I have served the Indian National Congress for a period of more than 17 years with all sincerity. Without any communication to me, suspending me from the party may be assumed that the party does not require my service anymore,” he mentioned in his resignation letter.

He questioned how his prescheduled engagements, for which he expressed his difficulties to attend Rahul Gandhi’s meeting in Bhubaneswar on January 25, and his praise for Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik could be termed as anti-party activities.

Notably, the Pradesh Congress Committee had suspended Singh after he praised CM and BJD supremo Patnaik. Singh wondered how praising the best-ranking Chief Minister was anti-party activity.

PCC president Niranjan Patnaik said Singh is all set to join the BJD, but it would have no adverse impact on the Congress.

In another significant development in the State Congress on Friday, PCC chief Patnaik hinted that former Koraput MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria might be deprived of ticket to contest in the elections and even be suspended from the party because of his anti-party activities.

Notably, Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kishore Das had resigned from the Congress two days ago.
