Councillors of the Joda Municipality on Wednesday staged a six-hour dharna in front of the Community Health Centre (CHC) in protest against the Government’s failure to provide adequate health services to the people here.
The Councillors who sat on dharna were Ashok Naik, Srikant Sawant, Rajkumari Thapa, Berrenga Munda and Ranjit Kumar Bhanja.Stating that nearly 40,000 people belonging to villages of seven gram panchayats are dependent on the CHC, the councillors expressed concern that the State Government has turned deaf ears to their repeated demand of filling up vacant doctor posts.
“While the CHC has three sanctioned doctor posts, one post has remained vacant for a long period. Besides, shortage of other paramedical staff like pharmacists, dressers, sweepers and attendants has added to the woes of the patients. We demand the vacant posts be filled up soon,” the agitating Councillors said.Informing that the Joda area is prone to TB, Jaundice and other fatal diseases, the Concillors said they would intensify the stir if their demands are not met soon.
