A major fire broke out in a garment shop at Station Square here on Wednesday. The entire shop was gutted in the fire.

The cause of fire was reported to be an electric short circuit that broke out in the morning, the shop owner of National Textile informed.

The fire brigade came half an hour late, the shop owner added.  He also said that though the electrical equipments which they use in their shop were of good quality, the source of electric short circuit was due to non-maintenance of the electrical ware from the pole point.

As many as 15 fire tenders, including those of Vedanta, MCl and MSP Metallics, took 10 long hours to extinguish the fire. But it was too late to save the properties.

As per rough estimates, garments stocks worth approximately Rs 1 crore were destroyed in the fire, said showroom partner Rakesh Sharma. Officials confirmed that no casualty was reported in the incident.
