Unidentified miscreants allegedly looted gold ornaments and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees from the Kali temple in the Gurujang area of Khordha town late on Tuesday night.

Sources said the some miscreants looted 200 grams of gold jewellery and utensils worth lakhs of rupees after breaking open the lock of the temple. They also decamped with the temple’s donation box.

The matter came to light after the priest of the temple first found the temple gates wide open with its broken locks lying on the ground in the wee hours of Wednesday and informed locals.

Police along with a forensic team rushed to the spot and launched a probe. A complaint was registered; and basing on the preliminary probe, a special team would be formed to nab the culprits and recover the valuables, a police official said.

In last two months, a series of temple loot incidents have been reported from different places of the State.
