After a series of interrogations and cross verifications, the Soro police on Tuesdayarrested actress Pralipta Priyadarshini Samal alias Jessy in connection with the mysterious death of television actor Ranjit Patnaik alias Raja.
She was sent to judicial custody for 10 days by the Soro SDJM Court after rejecting her bail petition.
Baleswar district Superintendent of Police Niti Sekhar said, “She (Jessy) has been arrested under Section 306 of IPC for abetting the actor’s death.”
“Prima facie, it was a case of suicide. He (Raja) committed suicide due to instigation or abetment. When we verified the circumstances of the incident, we found that she (Jessy) had taunted the deceased in connection with her professional success as she is relatively more successful among the two,” Sekhar added.
Asked about the other two suspects in the case, driver Dhaneswar and event coordinator Pralay, the SP said no evidence of their role has emerged during the interrogation so far.
Sekhar said the police may subject Jessy to a lie detector test, if required.
Earlier in the day, the Soro police deferred polygraph test of Jessy, Pralay and Dhaneswar tillWednesday following a technical snag at the forensic laboratory in Bhubaneswar.
Notably, actress Jessy, Pralay and driver had accompanied Ranjit to an event at Taranga in the Jamujhadi area under Simulia block in Baleswar district on the fateful night.
