Police on Thursday nabbed notorious criminal Danda Moharana from the K Nuagaon police limits in Kandhamal district following an encounter.
Police sources said Danda, an aide of former Sanakhemundi Congress MlA Ramesh Jena, sustained bullet injuries on his leg. He was initially admitted to the MKCG Medical College Hospital in Brahmapur but was later shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
A motorbike without number plate, a fire-arm and a live bullet were seized from his possession.
The incident occurred early in the morning near Tamana Ghat under the K Nuagaon police station when Danda along with one of his friends was crossing through the ghat road.
When intercepted by a team of the Brahmapur police, who were patrolling there acting on intelligence inputs, Danda opened three rounds of fire at the cops leading to the encounter, the source added.
There are 22 cases against Danda at the K Nuagaon police station, 19 cases at the Brahmapur Town police station and two at the Gosani Nuagaon police station.
