The Janata Dal(U) State unit has decided to strengthen its base in Odisha and launch a massive membership campaign under the guidance of party’s national president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
JD(U) State president Chittaranjan Mohanty at a Press meet here on Thursdayalleged that the socio- economic and political situations in Odisha are now in a miserable condition because of the neglect to the core problems of the people by the State Government and the politicisation and mudslinging over almost all issues by the BJD, BJP and Congress for narrow political gains.
Distress sale of paddy, price rise, drinking water problem, and similar other issues affecting the grassroots people are simply ignored. While the State Government has yet to make the report on Kalinganagar shootout public, the large scale corruption in all spheres has made life deplorable, he said. The party also raised the issue of Government’s apathy to enact the Orissa language Act 1954 and law prohibiting liquor and other narcotics in the State.
Mohanty said that his party under the leadership of Nitish Kumar will start an anti-liquor campaign involving the women folk with a view to make Odisha liquor-free. He called for massive agitation for bringing changes in different spheres and urged the students and youths to join the movement.
JD (U) senior leader Muhammad Enamul Haq, Saroj Kumar Prusty, Kuber Yadav, Raj Kisshore Singh, Chandramani Nayak and Geeta Das were present, among others.
