Jay, Vijay reinstalled at Shreemandir gate

Hours before the Snana Purnima rituals of Lord Jagannath and His siblings on Monday, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) reinstalled statues of Jay and Vijay at the Lion’s Gate of the Shreemandir here late on Sunday night.

Of the pair of statues, the idol of Jay had been damaged during the Cyclone Fani on May 3.

The ASI will begin repair of other parts of the Jagannath Temple that have been damaged due to the cyclone from the day of Rath yatra on July 4. Repair works of Garbha Griha (sanctum sanctorum), Nata Mandap, Rosa Ghara (temple kitchen) and Jagmohan in the temple will be repaired between July 4 and July 14 (Bahuda Yatra).

Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Pradipta Mohapatra had earlier said that though no crack had been found on the roof of the Garbha Griha,  the ASI will carry out an inspection on the basis of the complaints by servitors about seepage of water into the innermost chamber during the Fani.
