I was almost hopeless that I would once again be able to get my husband alive after he was seriously injured with five bullets pierced into his body in an attack by Pakistan terrorists. But thank God, my husband is alive and he is with me now,” said Sabitri alias laxmipriya Das, wife of Jawan Tapan Kumar Das, with joys of tears rolling down from her eyes.
Das of Chhakan-Harianka village, who was at Barimula area with his family, on August 16 last sustained gunshot injuries along with other jawans near Baramulla sector as Pakistani militants fired at patrolling vehicles while they were moving in night from Srinagar to Kupwara.
Das is working in 528-Army Supply Core Battalion at Jammu and Kashmir.
Remembering the horrible experience, Das stated that the Indian Government had deployed Jawans for tight patrolling round the clock from Srinagar to Kupwara anticipating possible terrorist attack and infiltration of Pakistani militants to India. “On August 16 night, when about 80 patrolling army vehicles boarded with nearly 800 jawans were moving from Srinagar to Kupwara, all on a sudden, the Pakistani terrorists in Indian Army clothes opened fire to our patrolling vehicles near Barimulla. About 300 bullets hit on the vehicle in which I was travelling. The militants also hurled about 8/9 grenades to the patrolling vehicles. At least four jawans were killed whereas I along with four others, including two police personnel of Srinagar, sustained bullet injuries.”
“I was severely injured. Some grenade remnants also pierced into my legs .later, bullet proof Indian Army vehicles rescued us and we were rushed for medical treatment to Srinagar-based Army hospital. There I underwent treatment for nearly 41 days and got cured. Now, I have come to my native village by taking a month’s leave,” Das said.
Das is happy that the Indian Army managed to take revenge by successfully completing the surgical strike at Pakistani terrorists’ camps.
Das’s wife laxmipriya said, “I was nonplused when I had got a telephone call from Army base that my husband was seriously injured and undergoing treatment. But finally God saved us.” She hoped that both India and Pakistan avoid war and resolve dispute in a peaceful manner.
