Jaundice is fast spreading in certain areas of Nilgiri and Bhograi blocks in Baleswar district spreading panic among the locals.
While about seven persons were detected with the disease in Nilgiri area, in Bhograi, the figure is around 20. Contaminated water has been the main reason behind the prevalence of the disease. The mainly affected villages of the bordering block are Sahabajipur and Udaipur, which are close to West Bengal while the affected patches in Nilgiri are Chiminibhati and Godikhania.
Following the reports, two medical teams rushed to Bhograi and detected around 20 people afflicted with the disease. Of the 20, around five to seven were sent to Cuttack and Bhubaneswar for better treatment. Besides, a cleanliness drive has been undertaken by the district hospital and NAC authorities.
leakage and breakage in the pipe water supply line could have caused the jaundice outbreak, said Dr Bijayketan Das of the Jaleswarpur CHC, adding, water samples have been sent for laboratory test.
Sources said the disease is also witnessed from other parts of the district.
The Health and other concerned departments should take adequate preventive measures before it goes out of control.
