Despite tall claims by the State Government and the Cuttack district administration over measures to check spread of jaundice, at least12 more patients of the city tested positive to jaundice on Friday taking the total afflicted in the city to 116. Seeing the jaundice situation worsening in the city, Health Secretary Arti Ahuja along with the local Revenue Divisional Commissioner and the district Collector visited the affected areas to monitor the drinking water facilities, drainage system, sanitation and hygiene in the city. Collector Nirmal Mishra said nine patients from Thoriasahi and three more from Jobra tested positive to jaundice on the day. Over 500 water service connections were identified to have broken pipelines and about 200 of those have already been replaced. Efforts are on war footing to replace all broken pipelines, he said.
