Jaundice outbreak is now again haunting the Jobra locality of Cuttack city after a year putting the city civic body and the district administration in tenterhooks. The city had witnessed a serious jaundice situation exactly at the same time last year due to broken drinking water pipelines in which over 150 people were afflicted to the disease.
According to sources, nearly 25 persons in different localities of Jobra are now suffering from jaundice and the condition of three are stated to be very critical. However, official sources pointed out that only 17 persons are believed to be afflicted by this water-borne disease.
A medical team comprising ADMO and two staffs of the office of the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) has collected blood samples of four patients and water samples from six sources of the locality. “The report of these samples will be available on Saturday,” said a staff of the CDMO office.
Meanwhile, district Collector Nirmal Mishra informed that steps are being taken at war footing manner to replace the broken pipelines. It may be mentioned here that last year, over 500 water service connections in the city were identified to have broken pipelines and the district administration claimed that all of them were replaced.
