The Commissionerate Police on Saturday categorised the Jatni minor girl rape as a ‘red flag case’.

On Saturday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced a compensation of Rs2 lakh for the family of the rape survivor.
The Chief Minister directed the Khordha district Collector to release the compensation amount to the family at the earliest. Besides, the Chief Minister also directed the Home Department to expedite the process.
The amount will be released from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Notably, the nine-year-old minor was raped in Jatni late on Wednesday night, following which she was admitted to the Capital Hospital in a critical condition. Her condition is now stable and under observation.
On Saturday too, BJP activists, mainly its women wing members, staged demonstrations across the State against the deteriorating law and order situation in the State and rising cases of atrocities against women.
Women activists resorted to demonstrations in all 30 districts’ headquarters.
“The BJP will continue to protest against the Naveen Patnaik Government’s failure to check the rising cases of atrocities against women. Women are not safe in this State anymore. At least three women are being raped or attacked every day. The incidents like Itishri, Bebina and now the Jatani rape signify the failing law and order in the State,” said BJP State president Basant Panda.
