Jatni flyover: NIT team begins probe

Published on:

Even as a team from the Rourkela -based National Institute of Technology (NIT) began probe into the allegations of inferior quality construction in the under-construction Jatni flyover  by the executing agency ,tension prevailed at the spot and police had to be deployed.

Sources said a 10 member NIT team led by Civil Engineering Department Head of Department Mahavir Panda visited the spot and began investigations to check the quality of slabs. But some local traders, who have been alleging of poor quality of construction and inferior materials being used, demanded them to check the iron rods used in the piers of the under construction bridge.

But some Jatni Municipality Councillors opposed them and demanded the NIT to continue the probe. This led to some heated verbal exchanges and the police was deployed to prevent any worsening in the situation and allow the team to conduct the probe unhindered.

The traders have been alleging that they have CCTV footage of inferior quality rods and materials being used by the executing agency Panda Infra Private limited. They have been demanding a probe into the bridge construction by the CBI. Notably, Panda Infra has undertaken construction of  Jatni flyover. But after the Bomikhal under construction flyover collapse the demand for an inquiry into the project has become shriller.
