Jajpur women protest before water supply projects

Published on:

People in various parts of the Dharamsala block are suffering from drinking water shortages. This is especially true in the hilly areas of the 11th and 12th zones of the block. Wells are now drying up due to declining water levels for a variety of reasons.

In such a situation, the people are being harassed due to negligence in duties of the drinking water supply department. Hundreds of women from Pashukundi village in Antia panchayat of the block have been protesting in front of a high-capacity Panitanki near Antia High School for drinking water for a long time. There is a project in the village of Srichandanpur in Kharilo panchayat. The electricity department has not replaced a burnt transformer with a new one as electricity bills worth lakhs of rupees are not cleared. As a result, the pump couldn’t supply water. Local women came to site and held a picketing. After a long time, the departmental officials sent a contractor there, promising to start work within two days.
