The police arrested a 35-year-old man on Monday on the charge of raping a four-year-old Dalit girl on Sunday at Jakhapura under the Jakhapura police station in Jajpur district.
Police station IIC Rajiv lochan Panda said Bipin Mallick of Kaitha village committed the crime on the girl hen she was playing in the village ground in the evening.
The police immediately rushed to the village to arrest the rapist, who, however, managed to flee from the village. But the police on Monday arrested him at Jakhapura. Both the victim and accused were medically examined.
On Monday, the accused was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class at Jajpur Road. The court rejected his bail application and remanded him to jail custody.
