In a major breakthrough, police on Monday night busted an inter-State gang of dacoits and arrested six of its members at Military Chhack under the Jajpur Road police station while they were planning to commit a dacoity in a nearby village.
Out of the six arrested persons, three hailed from the neighbouring State of Jharkhand. The six criminals were identified as Prafulla larka of Sambalpur, Deepak Baburam Eka and Arjun Patra of Sundargarh, Papu Khan, Ziaul Haque and Jamil Akhtar of Jharkhand.
The police seized four revolvers, seven loaded magazines, 80 rounds of live bullets, six mobile phones and two four-wheelers from the criminals’ possession, said Jajpur Superintendent of Police Charan Singh Meena.
On Tuesday, all the arrested persons were produced in the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Jajpur Road. The court rejected their bail applications and remanded them to jail custody.
