Gokhat Hudisahi is a well-known slum under Kaliapani police station in Chingudipala Panchayat of Ardapal Mouza. From 2004 to 2017, nine young men and women from the slum, which has 27 families, once lived in the Maoist camp.
Commander Rashmi alias Pitni, a close ally of top Maoist leader Sushil, had surrendered to police in June 2016 as the last Maoist in district. After Sushil's death in Angul and Devgarh police encounters, Pitani Champia of Gokhat Hudisahi slum was forced to return home. He had previously reported on Maoists' movements and problems, but was reluctant to go to Hudisahi considering deplorable picture of village. From Kaliapani Old Fandi ATM Chowk to Chingudipala Panchayat office and from there to Trincha Chowk, a blacktopped road, which connects to Ardapal, is in a shambles. There is acute drinking water problem in the village as well.
The village girls fetching water on their head from long distances is a common sight. The men too carry water on their shoulders. The villagers said they had to depend on Chua (small water holes dug on river and stream bed) for water as there is no provision for sufficient drinking water in their village.
Panchu Soren said there are many tube wells in village but they are either defunct or produce unhygienic water. Despite complaints by villagers several times, the authorities have not sorted out issue. Dhaneshwar opined that villagers had no choice but to use dirty water from tube wells. When contacted, RWSS Engineer Vishnu Mohan Satpathy said village would soon be provided with safe drinking water through the Sukinda mega project.
