Jajpur man ends life after police torture

Published on:

Tension prevailed in Kopanda village here as a 63-year-old villager, Dasarathi Nayak, committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train allegedly after being tortured by a police officer.

Dasarathi had on April 1 gone to the Jajpur Raod police station as wanted by PS officer Purna Chandra Patayat on a complaint lodged by his younger daughter-in-law Arati Nayak the previous day. He returned from the PS in the evening and the next morning he jumped in front of the train near the Ferrochrome Plant.

On Sunday, Kopanda villagers staged a dharna near Kopanda chhak by keeping Dasarathi’s road on the road and demanded action against the said police officer.

The agitating villagers cleared the road only after IIC Sishir Kumar Mishra assured them of a proper probe into the matter and action against the erring police officer.

The GRP of Jajpur Keonjhar Road railway station has filed an UD case in this connection.
