In a tragic incident, a married couple committed suicide in Jajpur district on Wednesday after the death of their Thalassemia-affected seven-year-old son.
Pradip Jena and Pravati of Udrang village under Binjharpur block took the extreme step by consuming poison in their bedroom.
The couple had lost their mental stability after they lost their only son Om on September 23. When they were not sighted at home in the evening, the family members with help of the villagers broke open their bedroom door and rescued them. They rushed the couple to the District Headquarters Hospital, where the doctors declared them dead.
Six months ago, the couple’s five year-old daughter had also died of Thalassemia. Locals said Pradip and Pravati were completely broken and living in trauma as they lost their two children in six months.
