What could be more disturbing when the husband of a jailor is managing the affairs of a jail as its de facto head! The fact has come to light while Madhabananda Jyotish , hubby of Nilgiri Sub jail Mamtabala Patra seen working in jail office.
A video footage showing Jyotish operating from jail office has gone viral on social media. In defence, Patra said that her office computer in jail office encountered certain software related snags and she had sought help of her husband Jyotish to remove the glitch.
“Whenever I come across computer related system problems I ask my husband or experts to rectify them. Since my system had problem I had urged my husband to fix it,” said Patra.
She further said that one supply contractor might have made the video public in order to take revenge on her as she had sought explanation from him failing to deliver items in time.
Sources said Patra has joined as jailor in the Nilgiri sub jail about two years ago and her husband used visit jail regularly. He used to interfere in all the affairs of the jail including manpower deployment, leave, ration procurement etc, acting as de facto head.
Further sources said, the incident is being probed by a senior officer of the jail department. In the meantime, several intellectuals of the area raised the question about the safety and security of jail and its inmates.
“The jailor and her husband should be taken into task after an inquiry. It is unbecoming on their parts and the matter should be treated seriously,” said former Nilgiri MLA Pratap Sarangi.
