Jail Superintendent Bibhuti Bhusan Pattnaik of the Digapahandi Sub-Jail at Patrapur in Ganjam district was arrested by Vigilance officials on Tuesday for demanding and accepting `10,000 bribe.
Pattnaik had demanded the bribe from Contractor Shankarsan Khuntia of the jail. The complainant alleged that he has been supplying food and sanitary materials to the sub-jail since 2009. This year, he had participated in the tender process to supply of 95 items to the sub-jail. However, he was allowed to supply 91 items, excluding Dal. When he contacted Pattnaik, the latter demanded the bribe to influence the chairman of the tender committee to issue necessary direction to supply Dal to the jail.
later, Khuntia reported the matter to the Vigilance, following which, a trap was laid and Pattnaik was caught red-handed.
