In an early morning raid at the Choudwar Circle jail, the Commissionerate police on Thursday seized several banned items like TV sets, mobile phones and contrabands from jail inmates.
led by DCP Sanjib Arora, a team of senior officers searched the cells of the jail, on the outskirts of the city, in the wee hours and recovered the objectionable items from the inmates.
The Thursday action came after the city police apparently established that the bomb attacks on Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Asirbad Behera’s house last month were planned from the Choudwar jail.
“The bombings in the city were planned by extortionists from the jail and were aimed at sending threat messages to their targets,” twin city Police Commissioner RK Sharma had said last week while reacting to the attacks on Behera.
Meanwhile, several organisations of the city submitted a memorandum to the State DGP expressing their displeasure over the deteriorating law and order situation and sought his intervention to shape it on the eve of the ensuing puja season.
