Jagannath Sanskruti Surakhya Manch threatens stir

The Shree Jagannath Sanskruti Surakhya Manch on Sunday compared the State Government and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) with the blind king Dhritarashtra of the epic Mahabharata for their failure in taking action against a group of Daitapatis responsible for the delay in the Brahma Parivartan ritual.“A week has elapsed after the Brahma Parivartan fiasco. The SJTA Chief Administrator has also admitted that some Daitapatis have created nuisance inside the temple on the fateful day violating age old tradition. But the State Government and the SJTA are acting like Dhritarastra,” rued Manch advisor Swami Arupanandaji.

He alleged that the Daitapatis have violated tradition starting from Banajaga yatra to identification of Darus and their journey to Shree Mandir along with the holy wood.“It is reported that they (Daitapatis) have sold leafs of the Daru trees. On their return to Shree Mandir along with the Darus they have made night halt at specific places violating tradition. They have also collected money from devotees even for breaking a coconut on the Sagadi,” charged Arupanandaji.
Manch convenor Prafulla Rath maintained that some Daitapatis having close link with the ruling BJD have been creating disturbances in rituals of the 12th century shrine
“The administration should take stringent action against them even debar them from the service,” said Rath.Questioning the claim of the Daitapatis that they are brothers of lord Jagannath, Manch joint advisor Ajit Patnaik said, “The gotra of lord Jagannath is Katayani while the gotra of Daitapatis is Ullka. Furthermore, when the Daitapatis touches the deities on the Ratna Singhasan (The day not meant for them) the Trinty makes Magha Snana as part of purification. Then on what ground they become the brothers of Jagannath.”
The SJTA should clarify the arbitrary claim of Daitapatis. He also urged the Government to ban the use of mobile phones inside the 12th century shrine completely. For the smooth conduct of the rituals, laxmikanta Das of the Manch demanded that the Government form a Dharma Sansad consisting of Shankaracharya, Gajapati and Mukti Mandap members. The Manch also demanded that the temple administration be kept under the Revenue and General Administration Department instead of the law Department. The spiritual body threatened to launch an agitation if its demands are not fulfilled before Rath Yatra.
