Jagamohan: HC takes note of PIl for judicial stand

Published on:

The Orissa High Court on Wednesday took note of a PIl that was filed a fortnight ago seeking judicial intervention to monitor the repair work of the Shree Jagannath Temple, which is in the news now for the dilapidated condition of its prayer hall, Jagamohan. A Division Bench of the vacation court comprising Justices BK Nayak and DP Choudhry asked the counsels of the opposite parties in the PIl to take instructions from the appropriate authorities.

Arraigning the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the State Government departments, social activist Abhisek Das has approached the court seeking its direction for formation of a committee to monitor the Jagamohan repair works.

Cutting across party lines, political leaders have expressed concern over the condition of the Jagamohan and on the protracted delay in its repair. The common refrain is that the Jagamohan repair work should begin immediately without further delay.
