Minister Pratap Jena on Friday ruled out an immediate discharge of Kandhamal conjoined twins Jaga and Kalia from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
Jena, who reviewed the health conditions of the surgically-separated twins with the help of a five-member expert team from the State which accompanied him to New Delhi, rather advised for a few more days’ stay for Jaga and Kalia in the hospital before discharge.
The expert team had a detailed discussion with the doctors treating the twins.
“We are very happy that Jaga has improved. But as far as Kalia is concerned, his health has not improved significantly. He needs more medical care, for which we have requested the AIIMS authorities to allow them to stay for some more time,” said Jena while speaking to mediapersons.
On a question whether Jaga could be discharged alone taking into account his improved health condition, the Minister maintained that all other options are under consideration.
“We will examine first whether it would be feasible to discharge only Jaga from the hospital or not,” he added.
