J’suguda dist yet to have multi-specialty hosp

The bustling district of Jharsuguda, known for its thriving factories and vibrant mining sector, is grappling with a significant gap in its healthcare services. Despite the State Government's announcement in 2011, the absence of a multi-specialty hospital stands as a glaring issue.

The dearth of medical infrastructure has led to a distressing reality where numerous critically- ill patients succumb to their ailments being deprived of trauma care facilities and burn care units within the district. The problem is more pronounced in the mining areas, where the situation is worse.

Despite being the industrial hub of the State, the district is yet to establish a comprehensive and dedicated burn unit to attend to fire accident victims. With numerous industrial units in the district handling hazardous chemicals, the risk of such accidents is elevated.

The region is home to major industrial giants including IB coalfields, MSP Metallics, Ultratech Cement, OPGC, Seven Star Steels, TPSL, LN Metallic, Vedanta Aluminium, SMC, and TRL Krosaki, alongside extensive mining operations.

At present, the district's medical services primarily rely on the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and community health centers (CHCs). Unfortunately, the prevalent industrial pollution in the area has triggered a range of health-related issues for the residents, further emphasizing the need for comprehensive medical facilities.

Consequently, patients are compelled to seek specialized treatments in urban centers such as Raipur, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Burla and Bhubaneswar.

The growing demand for expert medical care underscores the urgency of establishing a fully-fledged multi-specialty hospital within Jharsuguda. As the population strives for enhanced medical services, the creation of such an institution has evolved from a mere necessity to an imperative for the district's overall well-being, said sources.
